An insatiable reader, expert at fishing, history enthusiast, needle-pointer, and
friend to all, Virginia Buzzard Crowl spent her life primarily in Wheeling, WV.
Born there in February 1932 to Charles E. and Mamie Bruhn Buzzard, Virginia
passed away January 4, 2026 at home. Those who passed before her include
her parents and sister, Ruth Ann Buzzard Burton, and her eight dachshunds
(Otto, Fritzi, Greta, Hank, Hilda, Katrina, Liesel, and Otto II) and seven cats
(Kitty, Skippy, Molly, Muffy, Spunky, Trinky, and Chloe).
Those carrying her memory forward include her loving husband of 71 years,
Dr. William B. Crowl; daughters, Diane Crowl, Nancy C. Wetterstroem (Dave),
and Julia Crowl; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Wetterstroem and Kathryn
Wetterstroem. Virginia also had a few friends who became like daughters
including Louise Anderson, Marty McNabb, and Lisa Simon. Many thanks to
her wonderful caregivers, Melissa and Debi, of IC Care as well as Amedisys
Hospice staff.
Virginia’s life experiences included graduating from Triadelphia High School
in 1950 and Wittenberg University in 1954. For thirty years, she loved fishing
with her husband and friends in Canada. She traveled often with her husband
and family, visiting nearly every state and Canadian province, sailing on four
cruises, and exploring Europe. She was a member of OVGH Twig, Kappa Delta
Sorority (Alpha Nu chapter), Wheeling Dental Society Auxiliary, and
Altenheim Board of Directors. Her later years were filled with an abundance
of good books, many puzzles, tons of card games, and several rounds of
Yahtzee and 10,000.
Our Ginny, our Gma, and our Lady — we’ll miss you!
