John Kuntz

John Howard Kuntz, 93, of the Elm Grove area of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Shadyside Care Center, Shadyside, OH.

He was born in Wheeling on February 19, 1932, a son of the late Leonard and Mary Virginia Paulus Kuntz. John was a devout member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a proud U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. John found solace and fulfillment on his farmland. He cherished the time spent caring for the land with his late brother, Jay, finding peace in the rhythm and beauty of nature. His life was a testament to the values of diligence, humility, and devotion, and he will be remembered for these qualities by all who crossed his path.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Sally Alig; three brothers: Donald, Robert and William “Jay”

Kuntz; sister-in-law, Suzanne Kuntz; brothers-in-law, Jim Alig and Johnny Marple and his beloved dog, Little Pup.

John is survived by four siblings: Sue Marple, Joe (Connie) Kuntz, Darlene (Ed) Bryniarski and Terry (Mary) Kuntz; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including his niece Eleanor “Ellie” Bruney, whose visits would light up his day.

Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects on Monday, January 26, 2026 from 9 am until time of Mass at 10 am at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bishop’s Chapel, with military honors and interment to immediately follow.
