James Michael Taylor, 72, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital, surrounded by friends.
Born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on June 15, 1953, James was the son of the late James Jessie Taylor and Ursula Stephen Taylor. A true nomad and weary traveler at heart, James spent his life following the horizon and warmer weather. His journeys took him across the country, living in Florida, California, Oregon, Washington, New York and notably to Puerto Rico at age 65, where he lived for a brief time before eventually returning to Morgantown, West Virginia.
James will be remembered by those he met for his independent spirit, smile, and the many stories he gathered and shared along the way, often from his wheelchair in recent times. Many thanks to the employees of Family Dollar at Glen Mark Center who always showed him great kindness.
James’s private arrangements have been entrusted to CARE Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists South Wheeling Chapel. In keeping with James’s nomadic nature and wishes, no formal services will be held. His friends encourage you to honor his memory by embarking on a journey of your own, chatting with people who may live differently than you, or donating to agencies who assist the unhoused.
