Charlene Seum

Charlene (Rice) Seum, of Moundsville, WV passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026 at the age of 76 at the Continuous Care Center in Wheeling, WV, after a several year long health battle. She was a Jehovah Witness by faith and a member of the Moundsville Kingdom Hall congregation.

She was the heart of her family, a source of strength, and a loving mother, sister and friend to many. During her high school years, Charlene was a candy striper at Ohio Valley General Hospital. Later, she worked at Stone and Thomas in Wheeling until she became a homemaker where she provided loving care to her family.

Born on June 15, 1949, and raised in Wheeling, WV to Lawrence and Sally (Rogers) Rice, Charlene was a big lover of animals, her family, spending time with friends and sewing. Also, in her spare time, she enjoyed playing on the computer and watching HGTV.

Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in her children: Lorri Lutes of Wheeling, Marlana (Seum) Barrett and David Seum of Moundsville.

In addition to her parents (Lawrence and Sally), Charlene is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Christopher Seum; an infant daughter, Darlana Jean Lutes; a son, Donald Brent Lutes, Jr.; and two brothers, Raymond Rice and Rev. James Rice.

She is survived by her three children, a sister, Barbara (Dave) Kovalski; two grandsons, Robin Martin and Jacob Hartley, as well as a granddaughter, Kristen Markwas, two great granddaughters, Adalyn Markwas & Zaryiella Lynn Hartley-Valasquez, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering to honor Charlene’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 1500 2nd Street, Moundsville, WV, officiated by Pete Johnson of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses. The service will be available for live streaming to out-of-town guests; those wishing to attend virtually can access the video link provided in the online obituary. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in on remembering her and celebrating the impact she made on their lives.
