Betty Stanley

There are people who simply pass through the world, and then there are people who quietly fill it with more light than they found. Betty Stanley was the latter. Born on April 11, 1937, to Everett and Dorothy (Gamble) Wright in Calcutta, Ohio, Betty lived eighty-nine years as a woman of deep faith, tireless love, and remarkable character — and she slipped peacefully into eternity with her Heavenly Father on April 14, 2026, cradled in the presence of her family in Negley, Ohio.

Above all else, Betty was a woman who walked with God. Her faith was not a Sunday ritual — it was the very current that ran beneath every day of her life. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Rogers, she turned to the Lord in her joys and her trials alike, and He shaped her into the woman her family came to treasure. She prayed without ceasing. She loved without condition. She believed without doubt.

Home was Betty’s sanctuary and her calling. As a devoted homemaker, she poured herself into the lives of her children and grandchildren with a generosity that never ran dry. She had a gift for making wherever she was feel like the most important place on earth — and a gift for making whoever she was with feel the same.

She was, in the best way, a woman of delightful contradictions. She could sit in hushed wonder watching birds move through the yard — and then haggle a yard sale vendor down to a price that bordered on legendary. She had a negotiator’s instinct and a collector’s eye, and her treasures, gathered penny by penny, were proudly displayed like hard-won trophies. She loved to travel and see the wide world, yet no adventure ever quite matched the feeling of coming home. And when the evening called for stillness, she would settle in to watch Gone With the Wind — a story she returned to the way you return to an old friend.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Dorothy Wright; her sisters Ruth and Darlene Wright; her daughter Sharon Crump; her son Daniel Carroll; her daughters-in-law Donna and Linda Carroll; and her brother Everett Wright Jr.

She leaves behind a family that is larger, louder, and more loved because of her. Her surviving sons Paul, Allen (Terri), David (Loretta), and Bradley (Rachel) Carroll. Her daughters Connie (Tom Sr.) Warrick, Dorothy (Wayne) Saling, Rhonda (Darryl) Slater, and Bobbie Jo (Bob) Keenan. She is also survived by her sister Karen (Doug) Wade, her son-in-law Jim Crump, and her sister-in-law Ruth Blessing — along with an impressive 37 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Betty’s life during visitation on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral and Cremation Specialists in Calcutta, Ohio. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ronnie Boyd. Interment will follow at Longs Run Cemetery. A dinner to honor her memory will be held at East Liverpool First Church of the Nazarene upon completion of the interment.

The family would like to extend their eternal gratitude to the individuals at Southern Care Hospice for all that they did for Betty. Their hard work and grace was appreciated beyond measure.
