Billy Jay Wood, born on April 22, 1967, passed away peacefully on his 59th birthday, April 22, 2026, at Valley Hospice-Liza’s Place after a long illness.
Billy dedicated many years of his life to maintaining the beauty and functionality of the Moundsville Country Club, where he worked in maintenance and groundskeeping. His commitment to his work was evident in the care and attention he gave to every task.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harley and Violet (White) Wood; his sister, Bobbie Sue Wood; and his grandson, Tyler Watson.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Leanne Wingrove Wood; his son, Billy (Kayleigh) Wood, Jr.; his daughters, Mindy (Kevin) Whitlatch and Alicia (Ric) Ritchea; his stepson, Terry Watson, Jr.; and his stepdaughters, Kristen Watson and Heather Watson. He also leaves behind his brothers, Harley “Sam” (Nicki) Wood, Joe Wood, Charles “Chick” (Jan) Wood, and Tom (Beth) Wood; his sisters, Nika Wood and Nora Stillwell; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and again on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV. Interment at Halcyon Hills Memorial Garden will immediately follow.
