Hicks, Jeanne Rice, age 97, of Elmhurst, WV, died Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.
Jeanne was born October 17, 1928, in Scottdale, PA, daughter of the late Floyd and Etta Murray Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles W. Hicks, in 2004.
She was a graduate of the former Triadelphia High School and employed by The Children’s Home of Wheeling, Inc. for 29 years. She held the position of Business Manager until her retirement in 1997.
She was a 50-year member of the Jean Laupp Thomas Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons, a volunteer at Valley Hospice, and a member of the Newcomer’s Club of Wheeling. She was part of a group of eight friends, known as the Motley Crew, who traveled together and enjoyed lunch each month.
Surviving, in addition to her sister, Ann Bopp and her husband, Don, are the following children: son, David Hicks (Karen) of Louisville, KY, and Naples, FL; her daughter, Susie Hicks Orr (Bob) of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Dr. Rebecca Hicks (Dr. Kyle Williams) of Wellesley, MA; Kathryn Hicks Horan (Bryan) of Deerfield, IL; Dr Matthew Hicks (Kristy) of Louisville, KY; Margaret Godish Bice (Major Christopher Bice) of North Las Vegas, NV; seven great-grandchildren, Harrison Bice, Henry, Benny and Jasper Williams, Charlie and Ethan Horan, and Logan Hicks.
Family and friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV, (304-242-2311) on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM and at Christ United Methodist Church, 1232 National Road, Wheeling, WV, on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Joe Hill and Pastor Alvin Schafer officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
