Emma Kyrc

Emma “Mamaw” Elizabeth Kyrc, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 7, 2026, having spent 93 years of life in Wheeling, West Virginia. Born on July 27, 1932, to Clarence LaRue and Hazel Hungerman LaRue, she was the youngest of seven children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley “Pappy” Kyrc, whom she married on November 10, 1950. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Provezis and Roberta Stewart; three grandchildren, Staci Provezis (Jad Smith), Nickol Gaudino (Corey Gaudino), and Tom Provezis (Danielle Brown); and four great-grandchildren, Staz Smith-Provezis, Zachary Gaudino, Evan Gaudino, and Benjamin Gaudino.

Emma Kyrc was loving, caring, and a little bit spunky. She never hesitated to tell you what she thought, but she always balanced that honesty with kindness and warmth. She worked as a nurse at several area hospitals and also cared for private patients throughout her career. Whether at work or at home, caring for others came naturally to her.

She and Pappy made a remarkable team. While he played guitar and banjo, Mamaw was always beside him singing along. She loved to cook and delighted in feeding those she loved. The dining room table was often filled with family-favorite meals and homemade desserts, and ordinary evenings of conversation, games, and puzzles became treasured memories. Together, Mamaw and Pappy created a home filled with warmth, laughter, love, and music.

Emma shared a special bond with her grandchildren, who adored her. They spent countless hours at her house growing up, and that closeness never faded with time. Nearly every day brought phone calls and texts. She made people feel cherished, not through grand gestures, but by paying attention, remembering the details, and always being there. She listened carefully and took a genuine interest in whatever brought happiness to those she loved, whether it was a new hobby, a favorite show, or the ordinary joys of everyday life.

Her steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering love shaped the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in ways that will never be forgotten. She will be missed dearly.

Emma’s private arrangements have been entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Homes Wheeling Chapel. A private memorial service celebrating the lives and memories of Stanley and Emma Kyrc will be held for family members.
