Geraldine Skvarka

Geraldine Marie “Jerri” Skvarka, 89, of Moundsville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at Moundsville Healthcare Center. Jerri’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service.

Jerri was born on February 2, 1937, in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Charles and Estella (Stankiewicz) Majewski, Sr. She graduated from Moundsville High School class of 1954.

Following graduation, Jerri began her career working in local doctors’ offices as an insurance manager. Her professional life, however, was always intertwined with her role as a devoted wife and mother, a commitment she cherished above all else. Later, she found fulfillment in her work as a school librarian, where she also enjoyed volunteering, sharing her love of learning and community service.

Cooking was one of Jerri’s many passions, and she took great joy in preparing meals for those she loved. Her exceptional memory for birthdays was well-known among her family and friends; she never missed the opportunity to send a thoughtful card or make a heartfelt phone call. Jerri also found enjoyment in playing card games and dice games, and she was an avid reader.

Jerri found endless joy and fulfillment in her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren brought boundless happiness into her life, and their smiles were a source of great delight.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Skvarka, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years; infant daughter, Carol Ann Skvarka; her brothers, Charles Majewski, Jr., Edward Majewski, and Ted Majeski; and her sister, Joyce Ann Woods.

A woman of deep faith, Jerri was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she and Tony, began their lifelong journey together in 1958.

Jerri is survived by her children Mary Beth (Kelly) Smith of Glen Dale, WV, Joseph (Mirka) Skvarka of Clearwater, FL, and Thomas (Gregg Tucker) Skvarka of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Andrew (Jessica) Smith, and Isabel Kuca; two great-grandchildren, Declan and Emily Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Moundsville Healthcare Center and Amedisys Hospice for all of their love and support they have shown to Jerri.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV 26041. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville.
