Joanne Mattern

Joanne M. Mattern, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at The Orchards of East Liverpool, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and love. Born on May 18, 1941, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Garnet (Higgins) Rohall. Joanne lived a full and meaningful life, reaching the age of 85.

Joanne dedicated over 30 years of her life to East Liverpool City Hospital, where she worked diligently in housekeeping. Her commitment and attention to detail were appreciated by all who knew her. She took pride in her work and was known for her friendly smile and kind heart.

Outside of her professional life, Joanne found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. She loved being outside, tending to her vegetable garden and nurturing her flower beds. Her passion for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms and delicious vegetables she shared with family and friends. Joanne also enjoyed cutting grass, finding peace and satisfaction in the fresh air.

Along with her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joseph W. Mattern, and her cherished dog, Gi-Gi.

Joanne is survived by her children: Carl “Butch” (Fay) Mattern of Wellsville, Paul H. (Laurie) Mattern of Calcutta, and Dianna M. (Steve) Mattern of Calcutta. She also leaves behind a large and loving family, including six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each of whom carries forward her spirit of kindness.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 5PM-7PM at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation in Calcutta. A service celebrating Joanne’s life will follow at 7 PM. Joanne will be laid to rest in Columbiana County Memorial Park Cemetery.
