Howard Lee Haught, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 74, at WVU Medicine – Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia. Born on July 22, 1951, in Wheeling, he spent his life dedicated to his family, his work, and his passions.

Howard is remembered as a hard-working man who dedicated over four decades of his life to The Kroger Company. His unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic left a lasting impact during his 43-year career until his well-deserved retirement. Concurrently, Howard operated a successful lawn care business, which allowed him to indulge in his love for the outdoors, a passion that he cherished deeply throughout his life.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Howard was an ardent basketball enthusiast. His love for the sport extended beyond watching games; he actively participated as a basketball official for many years. Additionally, Howard had a lifelong passion for rock ‘n roll music, attending numerous concerts that brought joy and lasting memories.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Violet Dutton Haught, and his dear uncle, Roy Haught, with whom he shared a close bond.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Mary Grob Haught, with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary on July 19. He also leaves behind his cherished children, Holly (Mont) Edge and Howie Lee (Natasha) Haught, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Brandon Lee Edge, Ashlee Marie Edge, and Hutch Isaac Haught; and his faithful furry companions, dogs Boomer and Brittany Sue, and cat Noah.

In accordance with his family’s wishes, services for Howard will be held privately. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Homes, located at 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. Memories and condolences may be shared with Howard’s family at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com.
