Virginia Lee “Bunny” (Farkas) Vees, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, in her hometown of Wheeling, WV, at the age of 84. Born on April 5, 1942, in Wheeling, Bunny lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
Bunny was the cherished daughter of the late James and Jennie (Reszczynski) Farkas. She devoted 20 years of her professional life as a compassionate nurse at Ohio Valley General Hospital, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and care.
A woman of many talents, Bunny was known for her exceptional culinary skills and her love for bingo, which brought joy to her and those around her. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Joseph Cathedral. Bunny also gave generously of her time as a volunteer at Wheeling Medical Park and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
Bunny is survived by her loving husband, John “Jack” Vees Jr., with whom she shared 61 wonderful years. She leaves behind her daughters, Michele (Tom) Glusich and Jennifer M. Vees, who will forever cherish her memory. Bunny’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Tommy (Laura) Glusich, Nate (Ali) Glusich, Marisa (Brandon) Stith, and Kenneth R. Moran, as well as her great-grandchildren, Henry J. Stith and Thomas M. Glusich IV, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
She is also survived by her dear sisters, Linda M. Weekly, Gloria J. (James) Schubert, Mary E. Yahn, and Ann (Mark) Coates, along with her sister-in-law Tessy (Tom) Morando, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, July 24th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Wheeling Chapel, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25th, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the same location. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, with interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wheeling Catholic Charities, reflecting Bunny’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
Bunny’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
