Carol L. Voyda Young, 81, of Glen Dale, WV, passed away peacefully at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown on July 21, 2026, following a brief illness.
She was born February 8, 1945, daughter of the late John and Rose Shemon Voyda. Carol was a 1963 graduate of Wheeling High School and a 1968 graduate of West Liberty State College. She went back to school to obtain her Master’s degree in school counseling from West Virginia University in 1983. She worked first as an English teacher for Bellaire City Schools, then became a guidance counselor for Marshall County Schools for over 20 years. She officially retired in 2003 from her career as counselor at Sherrard Junior High School. Carol was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Mt. Olivet.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 56 years, Michael D. Young, and her sister, Debbie Voyda Richmond.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Mario) Vidikan, and two grandchildren, Keira Grace and Porter David Vidikan, all of Beavercreek, OH; her brother, John (Darlene) Voyda of Naples, FL; and brother-in-law, Stanley Richmond of Dublin, OH. She often spoke of her beloved family, lifelong friends, and dear neighbors as true blessings from God.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 11am, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 690 Mt Olivet Rd. Wheeling, WV. Mass will be immediately followed by a luncheon and fellowship at the Peace Family Center. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St. Wheeling (304-242-2311). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Appalachian Outreach, Inc., PO Box 6761, Wheeling, WV or Our Lady of Peace Parish.
