Elsie Louise Mehlman Wise, 94, of St. Clairsville Ohio, died on July 26, 2026, at her home in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
She was born on May 3, 1932, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a daughter of the late Fred G. Mehlman and Mary (Unitas) Mehlman-Dietrich.
Elsie was a 1950 graduate of Bellaire High School, and later graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She dedicated her life to the field of education, serving as a teacher for the Bellaire Elementary Schools for approximately 28 years. Through her commitment and passion for teaching, she touched the lives of many students, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
A devoted member of Rock Hill Presbyterian Church in Bellaire, Ohio, Elsie served as an elder and was actively involved in the church’s activities and outreach. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and he cherished the fellowship and support of her church community.
In addition to her church involvement, Elsie was a member of both the Belmont County Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, where she maintained close ties with fellow educators and continued to advocate for the profession she loved.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband David G. Wise on March 19, 2005, and brothers, Fred (Jo) Mehlman, Elwyn Mehlman.
Survivors include her children; Richard D. (Joanne) Wise of Bellaire OH, Arlene (William ‘Butch’) Green of St. Clairsville, OH, Monica Wise (Shannon) Hondl of Newport Beach CA, Janet (Daniel) Behrens of Kennesaw, GA, grandchildren; Matthew (Kelsey) Wise, Eric (Kerry) Wise, Brent Green, Andrew (Melody) Green, Christine (Vinny) Ortiz, Michele Tocco, Annette Smith, Kelsey(David) Martinez, Lydia (Nate) Miles, Jessica (Tom) Warthen, and John (Clarissa) Behrens, sisters in law, Diane Mehlman, Marguerite Brinker and Almeda Dean, as well as several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at CARE Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville Ohio from 2-8pm on Wednesday July 29, 2026. Visitation will resume on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at the funeral home from 9am until time of funeral service at 10am with Rev. David Demarest as celebrant. Interment to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery, Bellaire OH.
