Reverend Willie Louis Nevels,90, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Pataskala, Ohio.
He was born on June 23, 1936, in Brownsville, KY, son of the late Northa Reynolds Webb and Floyd Lee Nevels.
Willie was the Pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church of Weirton, WV for 28 years. He was also Pastor Emeritus of Morning Star and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Wheeling, WV.
He served on the Wheeling Housing Authority Board for five years, was a member of the YMCA and a lifetime member of the Baptist Minister’s Conference of Pittsburgh and vicinity. As a member of the local Minister’s Conference, he was instrumental in the renaming of a portion of Chapline Street to Martin Luther King Blvd. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, loved the Cleveland Browns and his deceased dog, Bobo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loma; sisters, Ola (Nevels) Woodson, Linda (Nevels) Johnson, Lenora Hunter, Gloria Webb; and a brother, Floyd Lee Nevels.
Willie was a father to five daughters and one son: Stephanie (Gregory) Stradwick, Janice (Harold) Martin, Teresa Pratt, Willene (William) Redman and Renee Wells, Anthony (Patty) Wells. Also left to cherish his memory is one sibling, Marvellis Webb; 19 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ted Valentine.
Friends will be received at Fourth Street United Methodist Church, 1060 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm with Pastor George Williams officiating and Pastor Rudy McAllister doing the eulogy.
Interment to follow at Stone Church Cemetery with Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard conducting military honors.
