William Kittle

Pastor William Byron “Bill” Kittle, 86, of Cameron, West Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 11, 1940, on Irish Ridge in Marshall County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late William E. and Margarete Foster Kittle. Bill graduated from Cameron High School and worked for 30 years in the coal mines with Consol Energy. He was hardworking and resourceful, farming, building a home for his family, cutting wood, and fixing nearly anything. To his family, he was their very own MacGyver.

Bill was known for his wonderful sense of humor, playful spirit, and endless dad jokes. He loved making people laugh and was often the first one on the dance floor at family weddings and celebrations. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.

Above all, Bill loved Jesus. His faith was the foundation of his life. He served faithfully as pastor of Morgantown First Church of God for 15 years, sharing the Gospel and caring for others with genuine love. Whether visiting shut-ins, helping someone in need, offering encouragement, or speaking with a stranger, Bill wanted everyone to know the love and saving grace of Jesus. He believed knowing Christ was the greatest gift anyone could receive and did not want anyone to miss out on it.

Bill’s greatest joy was his family. For 61 and a half years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Margaret Janet “Peggy” Fowler Kittle. Their marriage was an example of enduring love, faithfulness, friendship, and devotion. Together, they built a home and family grounded in love and faith.

He was a loving and protective father who taught his children to work hard, be kind, forgive freely, and seek Jesus in all they did. He treasured time with his family, whether working, celebrating, or simply sharing an ordinary day. His family was his pride and joy, and the love he poured into each generation will remain his lasting legacy.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Bridget Stoops, in 2005; his parents, William E. and Margarete Foster Kittle; his sister, Lois Jane Carmichael; and his father- in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Ilo Fowler.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Fowler Kittle; daughters, Michelle (Bob) Stern of Cameron, West Virginia, Amy (Greg) Hayes of Cameron, West Virginia, and Billie Jo (Jeremy) Clark of Summerville, South Carolina; sisters, Mary Thomas and Rebecca Loftis; grandchildren, Jaron (Amanda), Bradon (Bria), Josey, Gavin, Lee (Laticia) and Jason Stern, Sophia (Lucas) Aston Smith, Izabella Aston, Leland Kittle-Hayes, Cameron (Emma) Stoops, Zealand and Ilo Clark; great grandchildren, Rowyn Stern, Zion Stern, Jeremiah Nelson, Daemon Smith, Archie, Louie and Isla Stoops, Quinten, Aden, Conner and Fia Stern.

His family will miss his laughter, stories, hugs, dad jokes, and the familiar sight of him working on something around the house. They find comfort in knowing that the faith he shared so boldly has now become sight and that he is resting in the presence of the Savior he loved.

Bill’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, forgiveness, laughter, and service to God and others. His hands may be at rest, but his work lives on in the family he raised, the people he helped, the lives he touched, and the seeds of faith he planted.

His final message would be: Know Jesus. Love one another. Forgive freely. And never miss an opportunity to share God’s love.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
