Constance “Connie” Ann Cowan
Connie Ann Cowan, 74, died unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2026 at her home. She was born November 22, 1951 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Dorothy B. Stier. She was raised by her maternal grandfather, Baxter Moran, her mother and extended family who lived on Glenwood Hill in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Connie was and only child but had many cousins. One in particular, Randal Lee Swiger, was more like a brother to her. They stayed close throughout the years and shared a bond like no other. She took comfort knowing that if she ever needed anything – all she had to do was call and he was there.
Connie graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Class of 1969. Following her graduation, she was employed by the West Virginia State Police as a secretary where she met the love of her life and husband of 36 years, Trooper First Class, Thomas Richard Cowan. Together they had two (2) children, Kelly Lynn Cowan Schane and Kevin Thomas Cowan. Over the years, Connie was employed by Oglebay Park as Sales Manager and then with the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, First Judicial Circuit, Family Court Division, as a Secretary-Clerk, where she worked hand-in-hand with her daughter for over twelve (12) years.
Connie loved her coffee, Capri Slim 120’s, and home brewed sweet tea, which she was known for, but above all, she loved her family more than anything. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Her laughter was infectious. She could light up a room with her smile. Anyone who knew her, loved her. She was compassionate, giving, and loyal. She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed. She was greatly loved and her passing has left a void that will never be filled.
In addition to her mother, Dorothy Bell Stier, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Richard Cowan, and son, Kevin Thomas Cowan. Surviving is her daughter, Kelly Lynn Schane and son-in-law, Scott Jason Schane of Glen Dale, West Virginia, her grandson, Jason Thomas Schane of Glen Dale, West Virginia, and her granddaughter, Charlotte LeaaAnn Cowan of Wheeling, West Virginia.
A private service of rememberance will be held at the family’s convenience at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV 26003, Interment will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, West Virginia.
