Geneva Sanchez

Geneva Ann (Bassett) Sanchez, born on June 9, 1935, in Captina, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the age of 90.

During her children’s formative years, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker, ensuring that her household was filled with warmth and love. As they grew older, Geneva embarked on a professional journey as an administrative assistant for the Department of Agriculture in Gallup, New Mexico. She served the department with distinction for over two decades until her well-deserved retirement.

Her interests outside of work were varied and filled with joy. Geneva was deeply passionate about attending rodeos with her family. Equally dear to her heart was her love for puzzles, a cherished pastime she enjoyed with her mother and passed on to her children.

Dogs held a special place in Geneva’s heart. They were a constant presence, providing her with affection and companionship.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Hubert E. and Esta M. (Carney) Bassett; her husband, Elijio Sanchez; her sons, Robin Polen, Rex Polen, and Perri Sanchez; and her brother, Ray Bassett.

Geneva is survived by her loving daughters, S. Renee Arruda, Rita L. (Bruce) Henry, and Debra L. Cervantes; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom are testament to the vibrant life she led.

In honoring Geneva’s wishes, there will be no public services. Family and friends are invited to share their special memories and heartfelt condolences at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com.

She will be remembered fondly, and her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
