John Banig

John S. Banig, of Shadyside, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, at the age of 76. Born on December 1, 1949, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he led a life marked by dedication to service and family.

John served his country honorably as a member of the Vietnam Combat Veterans, where he worked diligently with the 504th Combat Military Police. Following his military service, he continued to contribute to his community through his work with Belmont County Job and Family Services in the maintenance department.

He was a member of the Bellaire VFW, maintaining connections with fellow veterans and honoring their shared experiences and sacrifices.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and RitaLane Banig, his sister Nancy Banig, and his brother Kevin Banig. He leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted wife, Marta Banig, his cherished step-daughter Erica (Chris) Wilson, his daughter Melissa, and his treasured grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryan Wilson. He is also survived by his brother Mike Banig.

John’s heart was full of love for his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Known for his generous spirit, he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.
