Ronald Wayne Brown, 76, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
He was born in Wheeling to the late Ellen Irvine McCartney. He was also preceded in death by his cherished grandmother, Zella McCartney Greiner “Granny,” and his aunt, Shirley Maguire.
Ron was a painter by trade and a lifelong, self-taught musician, vocalist, and songwriter. He performed solo and with several bands throughout the tri-state area over many decades. He was also a longtime member of the West Virginia Snakes Club.
A true creative – Ron enjoyed art, music, reading, experimenting with recipes, and gardening. He was a member of the Capitol Music Hall Players and performed in several theatrical productions over the years.
Ron was charismatic, fun, and always the life of the party. He loved living out the creek, sitting around a campfire, and playing his guitar while singing and sharing countless colorful stories and anecdotes. He especially loved the long-standing tradition of Sunday dinners with his wife, kids, and grandkids.
He was a die-hard WVU and Pittsburgh sports fan. He loved cheering on the Mountaineers, Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins through all of their wins and losses. His most favorite games to watch were those of his grandkids’ in the little league fields around the Valley.
Ron is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Nancy Claire; his four children, Nicholas (Courtney) Brown, Nolan (Brandi) Brown, Ronica (Seth) Mowder, and Ronald (Ashton) Brown. He was the best Pappy to seven grandchildren; Cole Brown, Brogan and Brooks Brown, Arden and Isaac Mowder, and Rowan and Cora Brown. He is also survived by cousins Lisa (Jim) Weidenheimer and Tommy (Kim) Todd; and several extended family members and lifelong friends.
A private celebration will be held at the convenience of the family.
