Gerald G. “Jerry” Jacovetty, Sr. was called home on June 13, 2026 by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to live in paradise for eternity with the Blessed Trinity. He will be welcomed home by his wife Lolly, children Jerry and Marjorie Beth and Grandson Tyler.
Jerry was born in Wheeling on August 13, 1936 to Vincent and Agnes Jacovetty.
Jerry is preceded in heaven by his wife Lolly, son Jerry, infant daughter Marjorie Beth, and grandson Tyler.
He is survived by son Jeff (Bonnie), son John (Judy) and daughter-in-law Cathy. Grandchildren Justin (Sarah), Laura, Jacob (Alyssa) and Joseph. As well as a Great Granddaughter Talia who fondly nicknamed him Pop.
Jerry began his work life as a surveyor with extensive work on the new construction of the I-77 and I-70 highways. Jerry was a retired firefighter and among the first paramedics in Wheeling. He was also a beloved member of the Ohio Valley Sears family where he also retired from.
Jerry was known as “Smiley” to friends because of his ever-present grin. To his grandchildren he was “Papa” and will be remembered for the countless hours he spent with them playing games. Throughout their childhood they knew if something was broken, they just needed to call Papa.
He had a lifelong passion for baseball from playing to coaching and following the Pirates.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2111 Market Street, Wheeling, WV on June 29 at 10:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass.
