WASHINGTON D.C. — According to a recent Politico/Morning Consult poll, a significant majority of Americans express concerns about the trajectory of gun violence in the country, anticipating an increase in incidents over the next few years.

The survey, which gathered responses from 1,920 registered voters on May 25, sought opinions on the prevalence of mass shootings and general gun violence in the United States in the near future. With a margin of error of two percentage points, the findings shed light on prevailing sentiments among the populace.

Regarding expectations about mass shootings, 52 percent of respondents indicated their belief that such incidents would increase, while only 33 percent anticipated no significant change. A mere 5 percent expressed optimism for a decrease in mass shootings, with 9 percent withholding any firm opinion.

Similarly, when queried about their perceptions of overall gun violence in the coming years, 54 percent of respondents foresaw a rise in such incidents. Meanwhile, 34 percent expected the prevalence to remain relatively stable, and only 5 percent envisioned a decline. Seven percent refrained from offering a definitive viewpoint.

The poll results underscore widespread apprehension surrounding the issue of gun violence, reflecting a prevailing sentiment among Americans that the problem may exacerbate in the foreseeable future.
