Bridgeport Walmart shoplifting suspects arrested, after shootout with law enforcement.

BRIDGEPORT W.Va. — A routine shoplifting incident in Bridgeport escalated into a dangerous shootout between law enforcement and the suspects involved, leading to a dramatic pursuit and eventual capture.

The ordeal unfolded shortly before 6:00 p.m. at the Walmart store located on Emily Drive, where the suspects were observed engaging in shoplifting. Upon being confronted, they hastily fled the scene in a white van, initiating a high-speed chase along the highway.

During the pursuit, gunfire erupted as the suspects allegedly fired their weapons from the van’s window at pursuing law enforcement officers. The pursuit continued onto I-79 from Benedum Drive, with the suspects recklessly traveling northbound in the southbound lane, endangering other motorists.

The situation culminated in a chaotic crash near Kingmont, where the suspects’ van veered out of control. Undeterred, they then attempted to escape on foot near East Fairmont High School, prompting authorities to place the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended all suspects, bringing the dangerous ordeal to an end. However, one suspect sustained a gunshot wound during the shootout and was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

At present, all suspects are in police custody, and authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident to determine the full extent of the events that transpired during the shoplifting-turned-shootout in Bridgeport.
