Alice Herring

Alice Marie Herring, born on August 29, 1945, in Havana, Florida, peacefully passed away on December 27, 2025, in Steubenville, Ohio, at the age of 80.

Alice was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Havana Northside High School in 1964, an early testament to her intelligence and commitment to excellence. Alice was a dedicated and loving woman whose heart was full of faith and devotion. She devoted 25 years of her professional life to the Steubenville City School District, where her passion for education and care left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A devout member of the Emanuel Church of God in Christ, Alice’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith. One of her favorite scripture verses was Psalm 91, which provided her comfort and strength throughout her life. She spent time with her Bible daily, praising God, engaging in ministry work, and praying over anyone and everyone in the community who sought or needed prayers. Her spiritual guidance and nurturing spirit touched countless lives and inspired those around her to live with compassion and grace.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 59 years, Henry Herring; her parents, Ethel and Prince Stewart; her children, Bryan and Shameda Herring; and her siblings Woodrow, Samuel, Alvin, Junior, Isaac, David, Eunice and Ann.

Her legacy of love and faith continues through her surviving sons, Steve (Kellen) Herring, Niles Herring, and Curtis Herring. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Gloria and Dolores, sister JoAnn, cherished grandchildren Callie, Isaiah, Genesis, and Briella, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply.

Alice had the honor of riding in President Obama’s presidential motorcade, an experience that highlighted her vibrant spirit and zest for life along with meeting President Joe Biden.

Most of all, Alice loved her family profoundly, cherishing every moment with her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her unwavering love and dedication to her family will be remembered and treasured forever.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Alice will be announced at a later date. Her family and friends find comfort in knowing that she rests in peace with the Lord she so faithfully served.
