She is survived by husband, Michael Lumbra of Wheeling, WV; son, Vance Carrier of Hampton Beach, NH; and daughters, Lynette Carrier of Burlington, VT and Jennifer Haverty of Scranton, PA.

Marie is also survived by her siblings, Daniel and his wife Barbara of El Cerrito, CA, Joseph and his wife Catherine of Colchester, VT, Theresa of Albuquerque, NM, Peter and his wife Elaine of Westmore, VT, Fred and his wife Darlene of St. Johnsbury, VT, Lionel and his wife Donna of Lyndonville, VT, Margie and her husband Chip Holmes of Middlebury, VT; and numerous other family members.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, Bernard Laferriere and Irene Gadbois; and siblings, Katherine, Jack, Dennis, Rene and Donald.

Marie was born February 26, 1950 as the daughter of Bernard and Irene Laferriere in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. She grew up in a large family, which may have attributed to her strong character. She developed a very solid work habit at a young age and maintained that throughout her life. Her efforts prompted her son to acknowledge “she lived a life of service”. Her character also displayed a remarkable sense of giving. She was generous to a fault and always believed it was “better to give than receive”.

Marie had a couple passions in her life. One was cooking and the other was gardening, and she was proficient in both. She worked at various schools and restaurants during her younger years. She became so adept at cooking that she completely spoiled her husband. Gardening was a joy for Marie. She loved playing in the dirt. She had beautiful vegetables and flower gardens at both homes in Vermont. She was one of those people born with a green thumb.

More to the significance of her character was the strength she displayed during her final months. Knowing she had little time to live, she accomplished it with courage, grace, and dignity. She would want to thank family and friends who supported her through her illness.

As her husband of 44 years, I am deeply saddened to lose a part of my soul, but thankful for the memories and love that we shared. I was very fortunate to have been able to be part of her life. Rest peacefully with all my love.

A burial service will be held in St. Johnsbury, Vermont in the Spring-Summer of 2026 at the Mt Pleasant Cemetery.

Donations in her name may be made to Valley Hospice at 308 Mount St Joseph Rd. Wheeling, WV 26003. Arrangements by Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St. Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311).
