Corrections

The Wheeling Herald is committed to accurate, fair, and responsible journalism. When errors occur, we take them seriously and work promptly to correct the record in a transparent manner.

Reporting Errors

Readers who believe an article published by The Wheeling Herald contains an error are encouraged to notify us as soon as possible.

Email: corrections@wheelingherald.com

To help us review your request efficiently, please include:

  • The headline and URL of the article

  • A clear description of the alleged error

  • An explanation of why the information is inaccurate

  • Supporting documentation or reliable sources, if available

All submissions are reviewed by our editorial staff.

Corrections

If an error is confirmed, The Wheeling Herald will correct it promptly. Corrections may include:

  • Updating inaccurate facts

  • Clarifying misleading information

  • Correcting typographical or factual errors

When appropriate, corrections will be noted within the article or appended at the end of the article to maintain transparency.

Retractions

A retraction may be issued when a published article or a substantial portion of it is determined to be materially false, fundamentally flawed, or cannot be reliably supported.

Retractions will:

  • Clearly state that the article has been retracted

  • Explain the reason for the retraction when appropriate

  • Remain publicly accessible as part of the historical record

Clarifications and Updates

In some cases, additional context or new information may warrant a clarification or update rather than a correction or retraction. These updates will be clearly identified within the article.

Editorial Discretion

The decision to issue a correction, clarification, update, or retraction rests solely with The Wheeling Herald’s editorial staff. Submission of a request does not guarantee that a change will be made.

Good-Faith Requests

We expect all correction and retraction requests to be made in good faith. Abusive, repetitive, or legally threatening submissions that do not identify specific factual errors may not receive a response.

Governing Law

This Corrections and Retractions Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of West Virginia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
